It’s always something! There are plenty of email scams out there but here’s one of the latest that can really mess up your Facebook time!
Watch for a fake email that claims to be from Facebook. The email will say something to the effect of “Someone has left an offensive comment on your Facebook wall. Click here to see who,” or something similar to that.
Don’t click the link! It’ll take you to a malicious site that looks like a Facebook profile page. The page installs a Blackhole exploit on your system that allows the hacker to get into your system and install other nasty things that could include stealing your personal information.
The really tricky part is that you can tell it’s a scam because it usually comes from faceb00k.com (with two zeros instead of the letters ‘o’) not facebook.com. Also, if someone actually posted on your Timeline, it would show up as a notification in your Facebook account. So if you’re not sure if the notification is real or a scam, it’s always safest to just login to your account and check your notifications. If there’s no notification for it, it’s a scam.
There are many of these types of scams out there right now. They’re on Twitter as well. I probably get about 4 a week that come as a direct message on my Twitter account. Don’t click the link! If you do, you’re putting yourself at risk. Trust your instincts, if it doesn’t look right, there’s probably something wrong with it.
