Ad Aware Follow Up Guide
Ad-Aware
Ad-Aware is a program designed specifically to remove spy ware
from your computer. A Pc that is infected with Spy ware may
have slow overall performance, as well as display annoying Pop-up
Ads. To keep your Pc free of spy ware Bennett recommends running
an Ad-Aware scan at least once a week.

- Double Click on the Ad-Aware Icon, it should be located
on your Desktop. If you can’t find it there Click the
START button Then select Programs, and Lava Soft Ad-aware.
- When the Ad-Aware program starts click the “Check
for updates” link. It is very important to check for
any updates to Ad-Aware before running your scan, these updates
will allow Ad-aware to find all of the newest types of Spy
ware. NOTE: Your computer will have to be connected to the
internet to check for updates.
- When the Update window appears Click on Connect. Ad-Aware
will then check for the newest definitions available.
- If new updates are available you will be prompted to download
and install them. To do this just click OK.
- When the download has completed click on Finish, you are
now ready to run the Ad-Aware scan. To do so click on Start.
- Click the button next to “Perform smart system scan”,
and then click Next. The scan can take several minutes to
an hour to run depending on the speed of your computer and
the number of file it contains.
- When the scan has completed click on next. Don’t
be alarmed at the number of objects that Ad-Aware finds. It
is not uncommon for Ad-Aware to find several hundred objects.
- Place a check in box next to each of the spy ware objects
found, then click on Next. NOTE: if there are several objects
found you can right click the box and click on “select
all”
- Ad-Aware will confirm with you that you want to remove
the spy ware, Click OK. You may be prompted to Scan your PC
at the next reboot, click Yes.
- You have now successfully scanned for, and removed any
spy ware that may have infected your computer. Remember to
scan your PC at least once a week.
