Don’t delay your hardware replacement
Since late last year, Intel has been warning about a processor shortage for new workstation orders. Those warnings are now fact and we do not see a change in processor availability in the near future. The end of life of Windows 7 has increased the demand for workstations considerably and there simply is not enough processors to fulfill the need. We are seeing orders take 4 weeks or longer to process. AMD processors are in a similar shortage as purchasers are looking for alternatives.
When XP was its last year of support, a similar situation took place. Workstations had aged to a point where purchasing new was the best option but acquiring hardware in a timely manner became difficult . Businesses who waited until late in the year could not acquire hardware until 3 months after the New Year. Typically, this was an acceptable business risk for those that waited, but for others they paid a premium to acquire hardware to become compliant. If your budget has you upgrading workstations this year, we would recommend doing so with plenty of time before the end of the year.
